Licking Peach

2026

Fifteen minutes late, first date;
said he broke your face.
Your daughter, with my childhood stare,
saw it, but kept the pace.

Job across the country, smart
just to squeeze more pay.
Boldness turns to highways fast,
and then you drove away.

A year later, you came back
with coffee, lunch, same spell.
Same blue eyes, you twisted words
and threatened me with hell.

Peach gloss, bars, your head on me;
my jacket wore your stain.
Bathroom, backseat, crowded house—
I said love anyway.
